6-5-03 Funeral services for Maxine Johnston Carter, 89, of Sealy, were held Friday May 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Sealy with Rev. Bill Webb officiating. Interment was at Sealy Cemetery in Sealy. Serving as pallbearers were W.C. Melnar, Leroy Zapalac, Joe Hinze, Charles Hinze, Joe Peters, Jr., and Charles Power. Born May 19, 1914 in Sealy, Texas to parents James W. and Martha (Preibisch) Johnston. Maxine attended Sealy Public Schools as well as Thomas School and Westmoreland School for Girls, both in San Antonio. Mrs. Carter was of Methodist faith and was a retired cattle rancher. Maxine Johnston Carter passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003 in Katy, Texas. Survived by her daughter Wanda Schaffner of Houston, niece Mrs. Kenneth Remmert of Sealy, and nephew James B. Johnston of Aqua Dulce, Texas. Preceded in death by her parents James W. and Martha Johnston, husbands Ernest Schaffner and A.L. Carter and her brothers Worth, Willard and Sidney Johnston.
