2001 Funeral Services for Helen Mae Zander, 89, of Bellville, were held Friday, July 6, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Knesek Bros./Etlinger Funeral Chapel in Bellville with Rev. Harold Sellers and Rev. Jeff English officiating. Interment was in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near Bellville. Serving as pallbearers for the service were here grandchildren; James T. Harden Jr., Johnny Harden, Janice Santos, Jeannie Smith, Paul Tarwater, Jill Flatt, and Curtis Tarwater. Born in Washington County, Helen Mae Slama was the daughter of Joe Slama and Cora Acock Slama. She was raised in Bellville and attended the Tottenham School. On December 5, 1931, Helen and Mr. Fred Zander were married in Hempstead. Mrs. Zander worked as a Sales Clerk for 25 years at the Woolworth Store in Spring Branch. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellville and the W.M.U. at First Baptist. Helen Mae Zander passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Survived by her daughters; Ruth Jean Harden of Bellville, Carole Tarwater and husband Mel of Bellville, Sisters; Eva Norwood of Hempstead, Nan Evans of Georgetown, Mary Johnson of Conroe, brother; Herbert Slama of Hempstead, grandchildren; James R. Harden Jr., Johnny Harden, Janice Santos, Jeannie Smith, Paul Tarwater, Curtis Tarwater, Jill Flatt, great-grandchildren; James R. Harden III, Micah Harden, Glenn Harden, Joshua Harden, Sara Santos, Rachel Santos, Mikayla Smith, Tyler Flatt, Molly Flatt, Anna Taylor, Jennifer Smith, great-great-grandchildren; Micayla Harden, Micah Harden, Jr., Zachary Santos, Caleb Santos, Issac Taylor, Nicole Harden and Samatha Harden. Preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Cora Slama, her husband, Fred Zander, his sisters; Bessie Smith, Ruby Perry, her brother; Joe Melvin Slama and her son-in-law; James R.
