Enlisted on June 30, 1862 at Camp Waul, and in July was listed as a substitute for H. Weigand, see below, who was then discharged. One could serve as a substitute only if he was not subject to conscription.~Because Johann was seventeen, he was a year younger than draft age. He died June 25, 1863 at Yazoo City of illness. He was a Wend and his death is recorded in the St. Paul?s Lutheran Church Death Register at Serbin.~From Fayette County
