Mrs. Frances Maeckel

Mrs. Frances Maeckel, nee Maresh, was born March 20, 1853, at Cherma, Checho-Slovakia. At the age of 18 she immigrated with her parents, sisters and brother to Texas and settled at Frelsburg, Colorado Co.

On Nov. 22, 1874, she was united in marriage to Edward Maeckel who preceded her to eternity on Sept. 8, 1919. To this union 8 children were born, two of which died in infancy; those surviving her are William Maeckel of Shelby, Mrs. Therese Zettel and Mrs. Emma Kaase of Nelsonville, Mrs. Helene Schmalriede of New Bremen and Miss Annie Maeckel and Edward O. Maeckel of Bleiblerville.

Beside these children, her departure is deeply mourned by her niece, Miss Louise Maresh, whom she reared from a motherless babe of 9 months and to whom she extended the same motherly love and care as to her own children.

Furthermore, she is survived by 23 grandchildren, and her only brother Frank Maresh, of Sealy.

She always enjoyed good health and it was only for the last half past year that the infirmities of old age began to show on her.

She died Sunday night, Nov. 13, at the home of her son, Edward O. Maeckel of Bleiblerville, of which community she had been a resident for over 50 years and reached the age of 79 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, with interment at the church of the Bohemian-Moravian Brethren at Industry, Rev. F. H. Horak of Caldwell officiating. The following nephews of this good woman acted as pallbearers: Arthur Korff of Austin, Frank Hejl of Seaton, Joe Schiller of Richmond, Frank Schiller of Sealy, B. W. Schiller of Nelsonville, Leon Maeckel of Yoakum.

She was a true Christian woman, a loving wife and mother, and a friend of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
