Obituary
1946
Rosenberg Herald, February 8, 1946:

Mr. Joseph Hlavaty died at the home of his daughter, a widow, at Snook, Texas, Sunday, January 27, 1945, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Mr. Hlavaty was born on September 7, 1862, in Moravia, Czechoslovakia. In 1912, he left the country of his birth, with his wife and children and came to Texas. They settled near Wallis, where they were engaged in farming. He was also a good musician. He quit farming in 1929, after all his children left their childhood home, and went to Snook, Texas to live with his widowed daughter, Mrs. Rose Vajdak. He helped her in every way he could.

Mr. Hlavaty became dangerously ill in 1937 and it seemed that his earthly days were counted, but he got well; however, since that time he never seemed the same. His body was weakened and on January 14, a stroke deprived him of his speech and he died on January 27, 1946, at 2:30 p.m.

The body was brought overland to Wallis, by the Knezek's Funeral Home ambulance. Funeral services were held January 29, 1946, at the Presbyterian church at Wallis, with Rev. J.R. Vilt of Needville, officiating. The Knezek Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements. Interment took place in the Krasna cemetery.

Deceased leaves to mourn his departure, two sons, Frank and John, both of Houston; 7 daughters, Mrs. Rose Vajdak, Mrs. Frances Senk of Snook, Mrs. Stephanie Walzel of Beasley, Miss Bessie Hlavaty of Houston, Mrs. Emily Kolaja of Needville, Mrs. Cecilie Turner and Mrs. Martha Stephens of Houston; 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandhildren and other relatives and friends.

His wife preceded him in death in 1924 and one son, Joeph, died in the service of his country two years ago.

May he rest in peace and may the Almighty God comfort our mourning friends.
