Vergil August Luedeker, 89, of New Um, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Bellville, Texas. He was a wise man who worked hard and loved his family. He taught his sons and grandchildren what was important in life. His motto in life was, “If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right.”

Vergil was born in Industry, Texas on January 9, 1924, the son of the late Emil and Frieda (Rinn) Luedeker. He married Carrie Spiess on May 16, 1945 in Welcome, Texas.

Vergil served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during WWII in the Pacific theater. Together Vergil and Carrie farmed and ranched in Industry Texas. He was a carpenter by trade. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carrie Luedeker; two sons: David Luedeker and wife, Glenda, of Navasota, Texas and Darrel G. Luedeker and wife, Valerie, of Klein, Texas; sister, Maynola Giese and husband, Cornell, of New Ulm, Texas; five grandchildren: Laura Luedeker Hesters and husband, Chad, Luke Luedeker and wife, LeAnn, Lyle Luedeker and wife, Mary, Kimberly Luedeker, and Heather Luedeker; four great grandchildren: Grady and Morgan Hesters and Hope and Jack Luedeker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Earline Blezinger; and brother, Quinton Luedeker.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Zaskoda Chapel, 2280 Main Street, Industry, Texas. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Welcome Lutheran Church, 13636 FM 109, Brenham, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Burial will follow at Welcome Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Welcome Lutheran Church, 13636 FM 109, Brenham, TX 77833 or Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 East Blue Bell Road, Brenham, TX 77833.
